Latest blog post: Redraw of chapter 1 is happening (2024-05-11)

Author's comment:

The government won't just make you disappear. It is far more convenient to have you sign the papers that your disappearance is a completely legal consequence of you breaking the law, first.

Yep, pretty much what I expected to happen. Now they will only have to worry of permanently being under government surveillance for the rest of their lives.

They didn't get disappeared in *Russia*? Now that's some science fiction.

Shirt tag:

"I rescued and harbored an alien from space and all I got was an NDA"

So is Mark the only one who talked?

And I expect that the house has been tossed while they were at the base.

As for the Fjord truck, I expect it to be returned as a cube. I live near a Nato base, and its secundary vehicle entrance is right next to an extremely popular asian take-out joint with only 3 parking spaces, so people would sometimes park on the entrance driveway, those cars would be towed within 5 minutes, most were returned as cubes.

... hold on a second, they did not get their Fjord back?? Or is that truck "just" taking "confiscated alien contraband" from their house back to the base?

It does seem like the suits-and-sunglasses types missed a diplomatic opportunity by packing the Three Stooges hastily off the site, as opposed to introducing them to Zane as ordinary citizens who decided to take in and shelter a space alien at their own risk and expense, despite knowing that their own government was hunting him and having no initial guarantee that he was even friendly.

They already look bad enough, introducing the 3 concerned citizens would only make them look worse.

I suppose it would have to have happened off screen, but I want to assume the Men in Black asked each of them a lot of questions before having them sign the NDA and driving them home. I'm a little surprised that Dan was cooperative enough not to cause more problems, but apparently they were all honest and their stories matched, so they were let off on probation. It's even more surprising that the Men in Black don't seem ready to scour their house for alien technology that Gharr might have left there. Maybe they've already gotten as much as they think they can from their time with Nea? Maybe there are already surveillance bugs set up in the house, ready to listen and watch what they do next?

As to be expected, everybody wants to cover their tracks (until they can emerge as those who made all this possible, and take credit for it.)

"Show, don't tell." No word, but so mush is say about theirs situation.

Honestly, an NDA is a perfectly expected and largely acceptable resolution for all of that. By the way, let's note that it's seem to that was the UN who made sign the NDA, not the Protagonistant. For such thing, I trust them a lot more not to be too "hostile" than a state military.

My little disappointment is that I was except to see Zane come and thank them for rescus Gharr, it's an act of great compassion and empathy to welcome a fucking alien into your home. We may think it's obvious, but we're talking about a total stranger beyond our comprehension, is still a huge symbolic act.

Else, they probably haven't seen Gharr before leave the base. It would have been really smart to let them say goodbye and clarify that the situation is under control, because otherwise I have the feeling they'll be testing the limits of this NDA very quickly. Especially Dan.

... well, unless the Protagonistani intelligence staff happen to have the same tailor as the UN emissaries ... I do not recognize these two agents' hair styles ...

That assumes Zane even knew about their existence before they already left. ;)

Yeah, I put a bit too much on that. I didn't expect our friends to be get out so quickly. Until the next time so.

I was thinking the same as un_pogaz :

The 3 Stooges went far above and beyond what anyone would expect to someone utterly Alien who could then turn out to be everything from Messiah from the Stars to Destroyer of Planets. And yet Gharr could crash on the Sofa and stuff his gizzard with delicious Pizza while asking anything he wanted .

They have done more for future Alien positive Perception upon humankind than any scripted/public revelation meetings with the Press or UN etc.

But as Darth_Biomech states further down : "Maybe he does not know they exist"

I would say : He does not. He has not had time to ask Gharr because he was busy punching him.

Zane has been busy with damage control with the Higher-Ups on Terra. He maybe thinks Gharr has just been on the Base all the time spilling the beans. Which would explain his anger also.

But maybe the Raharr team wants the data from Gharr´s dongle before leaving. When someone (Quantum/Ashu) scans it through for archival reasons, the pre-punch happenings shall be revealed. Then maybe Zane realize he needs to visit someone and give them a hug. We´ll see.

The title page's promise was that they'd be pulled from Earth to space, by Gharr.

Figuratively, of course. I do still expect them to emigrate from Earth; otherwise there was no point to introduce the civilian eleent to the story.

The fiends !! Paperwork! NDA´s are like the worst... A Kafkaesque labyrinth of clauses, deniability, probable causes , dead-ends & thinly veiled threats.

But ok...Still better than a German pill to the back of the old knockin´..

The Chinese ones are just as bad, but with the added pain that they bill your family for it.

(Also, I assume you meant "noggin", as in head, instead of "knockin"? Not trying to be a jerk about it, just rare-ish words like that can be confusing - just trying to help.)

TRIVIA
Raharrs descended from the evolutionary branch that can be described as "apelike cats" by their evolutionary niche. Although initially carnivorous and solitary, they were forced to become omnivorous and form persistent packs during the latest of the rare ice ages of their homeworld, approximately 30 million years ago.
