They are not on conquest. That means also no for any peaceful interaction, because even only trade or limited information exhange would be conquest. Imagine living at 1960 and getting access of modern anime and tech to watch it. Cultural conquest.

We -aren't- a race of children! We aren't, we aren't, we aren't! I'm gonna sulk, now! Pout! Sulk!

Can't say as I disagree. Mind, it's not the tech. It's the society...still hasn't grown up.

Surely you've seen at least a little Star Trek, Dan.

Perhaps not if they're East Europe, dunno though.

Of course. That is where he's gotten "no First Directive without someone willing to ignore it" from, I suspect (because "OK, case closed, we leave now" would make for the ultimate commercial-break-friendly episode, having a length of maybe five or ten minutes). :-P

And this is why the commander is the most reasonable one in this comic thus far.

Don't forget the major. He's so far acted fairly rationally.

It's a dan'ting task to exert that much self-restraint. ;-)

TRIVIA
Before becoming a webcomic, Leaving The Cradle was initially developed as a modification for Source engine, back in 2007.
It was vastly different back then, much closer to the usual space opera look and feel, and the plot had nothing in common with the webcomic version, sharing only one character.
