For obvious reasons, they didn't bring Iskra to the landing pad. But now that they're back at the base, I wonder what their chances at keeping her out of the loop much longer really are ...
I don't know.....for some reasons "riding the bus....of FUN" seems ominous to me. Still waiting for this to go completely south .
But I cant see Bahin a chance to pull something of . After-all there is 1 cruiser in close orbit, the limited access UN group on the case , and (I would expect) the entire Raharr bridge on all ships in the exploration fleet to watch this live through the landing teams implants. It is a #1 contact event and that's been a while for the Alliance. Don't think something like that will ever be "samey"
I admit, it's a bit confusing, but the base at the crash site has two perimeters, one near the research site and the other around the whole area (You can see the outpost on page 146). Once they reach the outer perimeter and go inside, the convoy is no longer necessary.
I can't imagine General Bahin trying to "pull something off" that's hostile in any way. He may want to manipulate Zane into giving Protagistan some kind of "favored nation" status, but any behavior that Zane could interpret as hostile, or even bad manners towards a guest, could only go badly for Bahin, and he must know that. His goal might be to keep Zane in Protagistan as long as he can, talking to the Protagistani government instead of the UN, but I can't imagine he's stupid enough to let himself get angry or aggressive in the face of super-advanced space aliens, especially when some of their blood is already on his government's hands.
"The first time you sent one of these shuttles down, there was no chance to see how much space they need to land, so to be careful, we chose this nice spacious airstrip. Please ride with us to where the first shuttle ... landed. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
And yes, that bus ride would be SUPER uncomfortable for a raharr. They probably had to just stand in the aisle the whole time, with most of their heads rubbing the ceiling.
Since, on the previous page, I mentioned the possibility that the Raharr bodyguards wear masks/helmets to foil attempts to gas them ... how familiar are they with the fact that Terrans' vehicles produce some noxious exhaust gasses, which may even enter the passenger cabin and trigger Raharr "stop breathing!" alert systems?
Those bus seats will be...very..uncomfortable for them , so I hope they serve coffee and biscuits and also have those small lemon-soaked paper napkins for their comfort, refreshment and hygiene during the journey.
thumbs up if you know from what class A++ sci fi , I shamelessly copied and then altered parts of the text.
Also, I hope they placed guards at that shuttle or someone is already photographing everything inside.
Ah yes, like my favorite ... the Invitingly Spacious, Smooth-Walled Corridor With an Artificial Gravity Sink at its Exact Center. They look so funny when they're trying to get their however many extremities back into contact with solid surfaces.

The Alliance space stretches for an impressive 16 thousand light years along the longest axis and contains approximately 12 billion star systems. Despite that, 99.99% of those star systems haven't been explored even by an automatic mapping drone yet, and the borders of the Alliance space are defined mostly by the reach of spaceships from the nearest colony or space station, and in general are purely informative.

... speaking of which, why does that bus leave the landing pad in a convoy but arrive at the base alone?

Translating what General Bahin said...

They're already breathing the CO2 accumulated in the atmosphere, shouldn't be a shocker.
Umh. Car exhaust gasses aren't considered a health risk¹ because of the CO2 they contain ...
¹ OK, they are a working means for suicide mainly because of the CO2, but I'm talking slow poisoning / carcinogen here.
This is what I got from using this wiki page on the Rharr speech in panel 4:
Left:
opportunity - false, lie - idea, advice - future - ?authority?
Zane:
?meaning? - false,lie - relationship (logic) - meeting, encounter - problem - solution
Right:
?idea, throught, mental? - attention, insight - strength, physical force
So, Left: "Mayby it's a trap, your call.", Zane: "Let's not tarnish relations, go to meeting, problem solution", Right: "Stay strong"?
These might need a caption with a translation of the meaning of what is said in Rarran or with an editors note in the Authors comment section.
It would be nice to be able to read (in a subtext, like a foreign film) what they're saying in the 4th panel, but imagination is still pretty clear.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams?
First price : "Exactomundo" (no, not the one that´s Googlable unless my andropause brain is betraying me , in that case) : "BAM!"
I don't think that the pilot, navigator etc. would double as one of Zane's bodyguards ...
It seems a risky plan to just drop in with the shuttle unless it's secure in ways that are not visible to those funny-looking natives.

The doors just close and the room is filled with inert gas. It's not our fault you guys can't breathe argon. *shrug*
I'm expecting this shrug text-emoji, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, but with four eyes and four arms...
... do you insist on properly height-aligned shoulders ... ?
