Is it just me or is someone in the shuttle in the last panel telling the crew to be quiet?
*SSSSSHHH!!! We don't want to scare the natives with loud noises!*
Considering the still-running main thrusters, maybe that's so as to make the upcoming sonic boom a surprise?
Speaking of surprises, now I can't stop their radio communication going "wait, you need a runway?!?".
(According to the chapter title, they indeed don't, but you can't know that just from looking at the shuttle, with its wing and jet nozzle configurations. Though you can probably deduce it from the fact that they tried landing sans an agreed-upon landing site that first time ...)
(... stop imagining their ...)
So Zane is sending down a shuttle to pick up Nea and the remains of her squad, to return them back to his cruiser immediately? It'll be interesting to see what she tells him about the humans that she's met so far. And I wonder if she blames Gharr for the death of her squad.
Maybe they'll leave a beacon or recorded message for Gharr. Or maybe they will be close enough to track and find him.
I would presume some of the implants inside Gharr and the others , work as trackers also and that the shuttle have more powerful emitters and receivers but I think they would have faster succes if Gharr remember to plug in his wireless USBrain dongle again!
Human software often has "phone home" functions.
Gharr stands a chance of finding out that Raharr implant firmware has "WALK home/here right NOW" subroutines ...
That would be extremely creepy
But I guess the implant would auto-connect to the nearest Alliance/Raharr WiFi in range.. If Gharr turns it back on that is.
Not if you ask Elon, Jeff, Bill and Mark. Little wonder they want it for all of us.
I will cut mine out if enforced upon me, with the jagged edge of a rusten tin-can lid!
That first panel gives a good contrast of the size difference from the space shuttle to the cruiser, and knowing that the shuttles are about the size of a large private jet. I'd say the the cruisers would be a bit bigger than an A380.
A380: 72.72 m
Cruiser: 266 m
... well maybe if the Raharrs remain(?) metric and Airbus switches to imperial (A380 = 238 ft 7 in) ...
Didn't know there was a page with ship schemes good to know, size for the cruise would be close to the Titanic.
I recommend not to ask cpt. Kas why his ship's bulkheads "seem a little short" ...
Well... You're not wrong...
The 4th panel (the heat flare panel) - it looks VERY much like there's an additional (and very long) fin structure on the end of the closer wing. Clearly, there isn't supposed to be... and yet, it looks quite intentional - the shading, the extra lines...
?
Huh? Where? I don't see it.
The lower "edge of the winglet" is actually the edge of the shadow cast by the right-side flip-out tail-fin, and the upper "edge" is a leftover reference line that happens to cut the orange marking on the wingtip where its offset is.
"Hey you guys! This is what they look like before they're blown-up!"
Imagine some Bird-spotter accidentally seeing this from 50km away
"UFO UFO UFO".... .....And he would be right..
Well technically they wouldn't. UFO stands for unidentified flying object. But the humans clearly know who and what they're dealing with, even though they haven't told the rest of the world yet.
The million dollar question is: Unidentified by whom? On one hand, we should expect visiting extraterrestrials to know their spacecraft, which would make them not UFOs; and on the other hand, when you picture the mass of passengers come to board "a plane" at a large airport, most of them will never really "identify" any plane other than their own, if even that ...
Most people in the 21st century would correctly identify it as a descending spacecraft from the glow but there could always be someone who sees a UFO if only because they didn't know what else it could be.
