Damn, I all read it straight forward in 4 hours. This comics is incredible.
I love the very believable way in which everyone acts according to their situations.
Thats my favorite part about this. There's very little idiocy for the sake of story content. We see many points where something could happen to create drama or tension and instead its handled realistically and pragmatically. The Major's actions in particular stand out. He's dealing with something you can't expect any senior military commander to have experience or capability in, but he maintains awareness of not only military dangers but political consequences. Almost every step of the way he's working to better understand the situation better rather than make decisions on assumptions.
I'll bet Gharr's speaking clears up a lot of problems. He knows what they're saying and he can tell them what he thinks (and what he wants.) >>>The look on the Major's face!<<<
I wonder if Alliance clothing has special self-cleaning capabilities with nano-bots or if the nanobots in a wearer's body are able to get out far enough to clean them and return to the body.
He's been in the thing for a few months and had the crash to boot.
Kinda. Nanobots can work outside of the body, but it isn't a routine mode, usually they don't break away from the skin (to avoid situations like "you held somebody's hand for a while - they now have a rash").
The suit is getting dirty but not smelly. Even if he were a "natural" raharr with intact microbes, their "unwashed smell" wouldn't be repulsive; they would smell kind of like wet ground.
We had the shower-scene with Nea so I always presumed he washed when lodged at Dan but washing the suit..yes..self-cleaning would be nice. Would look really out-of-place when hanging for dry on the cloth-line outside (page 128)....that would turn some heads in the passing cars!
Also until the suit is dry , Gharr wrapped with a towel or sheet like a Toga...How Roman!
Ooo, invisible keyless single-hand-operated door locks! I see that the exchange of advanced technology is well under way.

Q: How did the major know that outright morons were involved?
A: The single guard in the room was standing pretty much in front of the cell, with his back turned towards it.
(Also, unnamed soldier, you were not dismissed yet!)
___
If the major's smart, he'll say something along the lines of "I am ... and before you have to hear it from someone else, yes, that also means that I'm the one who OKed the attack on your shuttle."
"... I see ..." ¬¬∩¬¬
"A delegation led by your commander is visiting right now. I suppose you would like to join them right away?"
[though bubble of Zanes face, canines bared]
"... uuuuhhh I'd prefer to talk to you some more first ..."
Also the jail bars seem to end at the drop-ceiling, Gharr could just climb over.
Ah, so that's what that guard is for in the first place ...
To be fair, those cell doors could have electromagnetic locks, and that drop ceiling might only have a few centimeters of space above it, too thin for anyone to escape. Also, to be extra-fair, the whole campus was thrown together on extremely short notice in a matter of weeks, and they probably never expected to hold any prisoners for very long. But yes, they are morons. The Major is surrounded by morons, and now Gharr knows it too.
The door can be remotely operated with the operator having a mike and camera vision of the area. These are used quite frequently in holding areas for extreme violent felons here in the US.
At-least the Major knows how to do a good first impression but what are ensigns allowed to do and decide on their own ?....Had they done otherwise that would be wrong also...
"Here have a cup of hot The , a Scones and a pillow under you feet while sitting in this comfy chair..."
Nope I guess not. The orders on a base would be to detain and lock up ALL intruders. It says nothing about Aliens, so the normal rules will apply.
Also that small panel 4 is hilarious. Gharr´s disapproving "I could choke you!" look , is great !
But where are the 3 Stooges ? They hopefully do not get the Hanoi Hilton lodgings unlike Gharr.
I agree that the rule should be to lock all intruders. But they did not intrude, they came peacefully to the front door.
I think they should have been asked to wait while the gard make a call to his superior.

Spot on =) , that sketch was absolutely insane and the pure Essence of everything Pythonesque . A short while ago I learned its mostly generation X and down who really knows their Monty.
I would think gen Z and Alpha shall never instantly (without doing a search) understand a quote like "Your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberries."
What a pity.
