I observe [an] opening resembling an airlock in size and structure.

... except that it doesn't seem to lock in much air ... maybe it's rather specialized on locking in "guests"? #AdmiralAckbar

Uhm, airlocks *usually* would have a double layer of doors? one open to space for people to come through, then the doors close behind them, the room gets *filled* with air, and *then* the inner doors open for the person to enter further. when leaving, the inner doors close, the air is sucked back out, and then the outer doors open to the vacuum of space. this way someone can go in and out without any loss of air while the doors are open. this is *exactly* what the outside of an airlock would look like.

Well, I did magnify the comic page to see whether there's a second set of doors a ways back - to no avail. If anything, I'm under the impression that behind the (outer?) doors, there's a significant stretch of a tunnel through what looks like compacted regolith or natural rock.

But even if I assume that there's the usual double door arrangement ...

this is *exactly* what the outside of an airlock would look like

... if the residents were currently outside the base (with the outer door left open). As in, lying in ambush. Rather than being all cooped up in a place they don't need to wear a vacuum suit for.

Everyone want to visit mysterious aliens ruin, until you found an alien that lay egg in your mouth, then hatches and the larvae burst out your chest cavity.

First they have to separate and individually go down one dark foreboding corridor ....What could possible go wrong?

Heh the door shape

The safe assumption is that the residents of the establishment, or their automated systems, have motion sensors everywhere within a kilometer of the entrance to detect uninvited visitors.

Lacking that precaution, the next safest assumption is that they put a full sensor suite around the entrance to ensure nobody can sneak up on them.

Although, if these guys have a wide-open front door, with no attempt at camouflage or any visible locking mechanism, and an unobstructed path directly into the heart of the complex, they are either tragically lacking in operational security to a pathological degree or they intentionally have some greater strategic purpose to let humans and/or other species wander in and inspect their secret underground facility.

The facility could be abandoned or temporarily vacated, running in a kind of stand-by mode. The ghosts clearly had some business on Earth, but they do not necessary have a high activity or a live presence right now.

TRIVIA
Insectoids in a lot of ways are the weird ones among the Alliance members. Besides having a completely unpronounceable name of the species, they have dextero amino acid biochemistry, which makes their food and biosphere to be inedible by the rest of the Alliance, and vice versa.
