Usually in sci-fi, the military is unreasonable... I really love the fact that the Major is doing his best to keep things under wraps.
I expect that her comm device will receive an update soon, with a human language library.

I'm actually impressed she immediately knows how to handle the pen, especially since it had a cap.

The major sure is reasonable
He's doing things the way they're actually supposed to be done - de-escalating, communicating, and working towards a beneficial resolution, instead of the stereotype of "Rar, muh gunz! Shoot it all!" that you see in most movie/tv military leaders.
This is clearly a guy who earned his rank, and knows what he's doing.
