I think there is a little stretched truth there, but not too badly. Definite things they don't know and don't have a good idea about either. Dan's probably guilty of thinking way, way too much of the military's general capabilities, alongside their attitudes.... Which... going back to pages 0-5 and 15-~30 is illustrated, really, really well.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, because Gharr doesn't know what he's dealing with really. He could be lenient in how the humans responded, or side with Dan and that's jusdt going to screw him even more.

TRIVIA
Before becoming a webcomic, Leaving The Cradle was initially developed as a modification for Source engine, back in 2007. It was vastly different back then, much closer to the usual space opera look and feel, and the plot had nothing in common with the webcomic version, sharing only one character.
