At least if Gharr knows they're looking for him he can activate some way to be found. Perhaps there's a secret code to verify the searchers are who they say they are.
"If you are who you say, you should address me by my rank!" "No can do ... ever since the commander found out about your ... editing skills, your newly assigned rank won't pass by the swear word filters anymore." "... oh #§&, it is them!!"
Perhaps fair, though I think the gov is even less likely to make the connections, or be willing to roll those dice. Just enough that the wildcard is more likely in my mind.
Though both might have a scraper that will catch much, much later.
What dice? The government is the one faction out there that has nothing to lose with this tactic, since every other faction knows about them. Also, if Nea has given them names, they're the only ones who know to look for Gharr specifically. Heck, they might even profit from trying this and Dan seeing through their deception, since "hey, how do they know his name, and why'd they bother finding out?"
(I still think it's from Gharr's actual friends, though)
Edit: I see the dice now, revealing to the fleet that there are almost definitely survivors. Still not much of an added risk though, compared to having shot down the shuttle in the first place.
Did I miss something, or is this post likely coming from the major and his men (after Nea gave them names)? Because neither the fleet nor Virus should, at this point, know that out of the shuttle crew, only Gharr is absent from the crash site ...
The post is likely coming from Quantum. He mentioned that due to peculiarities of the network they can openly proclaim to be aliens without arousing suspicion.
Yeah, not the military's MO to even mention classified stuff on the internet. Paramilitary on the other hand... also, I don't rate the aliens intelligence as overall very high of late.

TRIVIA
Artificial Consciousness and Artificial Intelligence are not the same thing. AIs, much like in real life, are not conscious or sapient and are more like really advanced scripts. ACs - like Quantum - on the other hand, are properly sapient persons, but their functioning relies on a specific hardware setup as much as on code, so they cannot upload themselves to other computers.

Eh, answer it, what's the worst that happens...you end up trolling someone that deserves it. (current event are relevant)
He should tell Gharr.
Ah yes, then the two least emotionally mature people in the house can make the decision together.

That's probably legit. 80/15/5 Legit/sus/gov.
If "sus" is Virus, I'd swap that one with "gov". He probably wouldn't want to draw attention to himself.

I think the military would prefer a more controlled and "official" channel. But fair, they might be desperate enough to have to risk it.
Him having a library shelf in his country house is a nice detail.
Paranoichan? Cute, but considering the setting, i thing Paranoidnik would work better.
Oh man, I can see the shape of impending doom.
"What about the rest of his crew? Do you know what happened to them?"
"No... but I know how to go about finding out..."

Worst case scenario. It could be the OTHER alien fleet hinted pages ago
I think they're asking about Gharr just because Gharr is the one member of the expedition the Trio Upstairs personally know.
Hopefully the forum has private messaging. "Perhaps you could describe this Gharr..."
