Those are some dumb soldiers. This truck is coming from the exact direction of the mysterious crash, at just the right time to be leaving the scene, doing the opposite of the natural human tendency to investigate incidents like this, and they don't try to stop said truck. Even though they're on their way to establish a perimeter.
It's far enough that they could be just passersby. To the boot there was no order to detain anybody en route, and initiative is punishable in the army.
Depends on the army. Certainly though in this situation, they're going to be tunnel visioned in and forget about this. Though if the kid gets pulled over by a sheriff, he and his friends iwll be asked if they have been drinking and who is in the furry suit in the bed.

Before becoming a webcomic, Leaving The Cradle was initially developed as a modification for Source engine, back in 2007. It was vastly different back then, much closer to the usual space opera look and feel, and the plot had nothing in common with the webcomic version, sharing only one character.

"Act natural. It's the cops."
