Latest blog post: Redraw of chapter 1 is happening (2024-05-11)

Author's comment:

I based looks of the General on actor that played similar role in one of my favorite old TV shows. I hope he's recognizable.

So the first chapter of the comic ends, and with that, it goes onto another hiatus, but this time it's a planned one: In these one and a half months I somehow managed to finish my yearly predicted quota in pages (11 out of projected 12), so I simply ran out of script. I need time to write ahead for chapter 2, and those that will follow (while we're at it). This shouldn't take longer than a month or so. Thanks for sticking around!

Meanwhile, you can ask your answers either in the comments below or there over the social media I listed on the right. I will try to respond to them in a non-spoilery way.

Ah good old Hammond. This means we may have a more reasonable voice on the government side.

I think you were going for Don S Davis, who played Major General George Hammond.
Panel 4 nails it, panel 5 not so much, but you were going for more expression there.
Is there a scheduled update?

Woah, bingo! Also, thank you!
There's no scheduled update yet, my life's still kind of a wreck after my mothers death. I hope to force myself to pick stylus and put something forth before the end of the year, but no promises yet.

This is great. Waiting for more and to see how it evolves.

It didn't respond to our hails, so we were forced to open fire on it.

I believe that it's supposed to be calls there.

Loving this story so far! Keep up the good work!

Nope. 'Hailing' a vehicle is a thing. c.f. "Hail a cab", "Hail a ship" etc.

Ah, I did a bit of research and you seem to be right. It looked a bit odd to me when I read it.

Thanks for correcting me.

I'm curious whether this story is a "first contact thrusts humanity into interstellar space travel" comic, or "alien spends a lot of time on earth learning about human culture" comic.

Avatar

It's both. the first volume would be about alien stranded on earth and the consequences of the whole ordeal, in the second volume the scope will become greater and move on to interaction between civilizations.

I'm glad you're still going forward.
(Panel 5 should probably have "major" not "mayor".)

TRIVIA
The Alliance space stretches for an impressive 16 thousand light years along the longest axis and contains approximately 12 billion star systems. Despite that, 99.99% of those star systems haven't been explored even by an automatic mapping drone yet, and the borders of the Alliance space are defined mostly by the reach of spaceships from the nearest colony or space station, and in general are purely informative.
