Latest blog post: Redraw of chapter 1 is happening (2024-05-11)

Author's comment:

From this point onwards, the Raharr language would work differently. It will not be simple human words in a funny font anymore, yet it still won't be random gibberish. All the past pages with Raharrian in them were changed as well.

And, for those who are brave, there is a dictionary on the wiki. ;)

On to less fun news... My current situation is VERY uncertain and unpredictable, so I'll just warn you now - if there will be no new pages at the end of October and no messages from me about that, it is highly likely there will be no new pages for the comic for the next couple of years, or ever. Long story short, I might go to jail for not wanting to participate in a barbaric invasion of another country.

Comic transcript

Later...

Nea: *alien*
Nea: Speak?

Major: Yes.
Major: Sit down.

Major: ...Your expert is not very good at his job, is he?
Iskra: The theory predicts initial... difficulties... with interactions.
Major: ...
Major: We’ve been sitting here for three hours now, and you have less results than I’ve managed to obtain in ten minutes.
Major: You are treating her like a child...
Major: And she's clearly not amused.
Major: To be honest, I'm impressed that she hasn't launched your delegate into the wall yet.
Major: Let me try my approach.

I am so sorry for your situation and i applaud your courage in standing firm. I hope things work out for you. If you end up leaving, i invite you to come to California, or as certain of our politicians call it, "that socialist hellhole".

Dear gods, I can't imagine being in the position you're in and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Putin, on the other hand...

I just read predictions of a horrible economy coming this Winter, because he's overextended and has pushed too hard. I'm hoping that someone more moderate, with better approval, will step forward to save them all. I think some Russians still want "the Good Old Days" but way too many have their eyes on a better future than that.

The kicker is that he's the sort of fellow to make sure everyone around him goes down to, which is a grand motivator for the spineless and honorless cretins he surrounds himself with to keep him propped up to the bitter end. And as rough as things are Russia is one hell of superpower in terms of population and production, even with the sanctions and internal resistance Putin can still squeeze a lot of water from this stone and hell of a lot of blood out of his people.

No, the kicker is that he's threatened to use Nukes on Ukraine, for a war he started but hasn't been able to win. It's his ego at stake, and that's dangerous.

Only just noticed the facial expressions in the reflection of the window in the 5th panel.

Brilliant XD

Good luck, and God bless.

You have my sympathy. I have no idea what I would do in that situation. Let myself be drafted and hope for an opportunity to surrender as soon as possible? Artillery makes that pretty iffy (especially when the draftees are essentially untrained cannon fodder), and going to jail there (and in this situation) seems likely to be pretty bad, too (probably better than being killed in combat, probably worse than managing to surrender).

Blarg. Evil people in power is always bad. Stupid evil people in power is (usually) even worse.

I've been worrying about that. Worst case, there's this: https://www.pravda.com.ua/n...

So sorry to hear you're facing that. Hope you're not called up.

I dread to think whats happening in those prisons. Good way for the government to gather all men of fighting age and prevent them from rising up against the tyrant. I sometimes wonder if the better option wouldn't be to take the training, take the gun and then use it to fight the tyranny.

HAH, "training". Hah, "gun"

Yeah, can't argue that. Even the guys who signed up for some pay have been noting the lack of training and the severely rusted guns are a poor sign. I think the U.S. has a similar issue with some equipment when they increased their forces for Iraq that took them a few months to fix.

Still. Even the R media have been noting the terrible work being done in the forced service, then laws get passed for 10 year imprisonment. Suddenly I note that there's a lot of anti-war among those forced troops and I can't help but wonder if it's a strategy by the tyrant to imprison dissidents to the tyranny. After all, if they sent all the loyalists to die, it would leave them more vulnerable to revolt at home.

Whatever the case, I wish you all the best and hope you aren't faced with that.

I’m sorry about what is happening in your country and what your government is doing to so many people. I hope you’ll be able to get out safely as soon as possible.

She can clearly see that guy is just a "talking head" with that wire stuck in his ear!

(I'm sorry you don't have a lot of choices for your non-participation.) Thank you for taking this seriously. They should understand that you can't do what you feel is wrong.
EDIT: (But that understanding would only be in a more perfect world.)

Oh geez, it didn't even occur to me that they might be dumb enough to try and pull a Bergerac.

And yes, less fun news acknowledged. Here's hoping, for a number of reasons, that it doesn't come to that.

Their mothers should step in and shout "You kids behave!"

Yeah, treating the alien super-soldier like a child is a poor choice. XD
Also, an interesting challenge you've set your readers!
Old versions of pages, if the dialog is mostly unchanged, could be key to figuring things out.

So far it is still word replacement, the language has no syntax or cases or barely anything, so the end result sometimes ends up being ambiguous (but also easy to translate tofrom, if you have a dictionary from the wiki). I think that's a good thing.
