The map of russia in the ships upside down but right side up to the aliens perspective display of earth's map of the russian region appears to be, different then it is in real life, with western russia and part of ukraine being split into smaller states

Activity, you say? Perhaps, from a certain soldier in human custody?

When Zane thought about "this planet" in the first panel, he was referring to Jupiter ...

Ahshu can't read his thought-bubbles though. To her, "the planet" is the one with people on it who keep doing alarming things.

Unless there was a timeskip, yeah, that's gotta be the spy satellite detecting her. What I'm curious about is whether it only picked up her search for Gharr, or if she also deliberately spoke to the ear-in-the-sky.

It would be interesting to know if their signal analysis could pick up her signal boosting farther than she indicated. Although there's plenty of weaker earth signals that can make it as far as Jupiter. The military would certainly be able to pickup a reply though.

If their technology has a particular signature, it could easily stand out. That its the ship picking it up suggests they're detecting her signal directly rather than from the satellite.

I can also imagine that Nea might not be enough of an egg head to be aware that her regular earth signal can reach the fleet. If she is though, she might transmit the situation and have enough awareness to inform the fleet not to respond lest their signal be detected... Or the reply is detected and while Nea is sitting there, thinking she's gotten away with it the military are grinning that she doesn't realise they know.

Thanks to position lights etc., the Earthlings' bigwigs already know that there's a fleet hovering around Jupiter, and I'd bet that a number of directional antennas are tracked on that planet all the time.

Heh. What if the "activity" detected is that there now are enough huge parabolic dishes pointed at Jupiter to be noted by simple optical observation?

TRIVIA
The Alliance space stretches for an impressive 16 thousand light years along the longest axis and contains approximately 12 billion star systems. Despite that, 99.99% of those star systems haven't been explored even by an automatic mapping drone yet, and the borders of the Alliance space are defined mostly by the reach of spaceships from the nearest colony or space station, and in general are purely informative.
