Author's comment:
Yes, I agree, since this is a digital file it shouldn't have analog interference noise. But I'm the author. ;)

So, the static is a proper representation of the author's mind?
(For a proper representation of interference on a digital video stream, the general should have Neas open-mouthed face pasted onto his right shoulder until the next key frame - several seconds later - overwrites the area with the proper imagery. )
Not sure what to make of Nea being cut off before she can say more. I guess they've probably deduced some of her language but not enough to be certain of what she's saying.
I'm more disappointed by how sloppy it feels. If you're making first contact and have a chance to arrange a pre-recorded message I'd expect it to be filmed and cut until you have a practically perfect speech.
Interesting as well that its the General who sends the first official contact message from Earth. Surely some politician would have pushed for the honor. Maybe just more of that military common sense to sort this all out rather than get bogged in the politics.
Well, she is cut off by some static, which would have no place in a well-edited transmission, either. My guess would be that there's been a mistake in either en- or decoding the video that led to the following stretch of the data getting scrambled.
And you might be underestimating a seasoned politician's CYA reflexes ...
I mean you gotta, for the aesthetic!
