I was wondering the same thing. We haven't seen anyone teaching him the basics of written english, but if they did get him across the alphabet sounds and first stages of them forming words I imagine he could self teach from there with some books written plainly enough and work it up from there.
If he works out that his people might be scouring Earth's network for details then he could easily post something somewhere that contains English words likely to trigger Quantum's searches and attract attention. Although, if he can think that far ahead he might think as far as turning his communicator back on. Even if he doesn't have the range to respond they could send out a strong enough signal for his communicator to receive so they can get a message to him, and I'm willing to be that whatever basic encryption they use would be more than strong enough to prevent it being cracked by human technology, even if they would be able to see the signal being transmitted.
Love the comic. Frankly, it's amazing, both in art and story. But there's one thing bugging me for a while.
Did you know your RSS feed doesn't actually have a link to the comic page in it? Or rather, it's used as the GUID, but not specified as a <link> element, and so isn't used in all RSS readers.

Seeing all the books in that sideboard: Would Gharr have learnt only spoken Protagonesish, or would he now be able to read(/write) it as well?
