Latest blog post: Redraw of chapter 1 is happening (2024-05-11)

Author's comment:

Hekaht's room is always a huge mess, with electronic details and boxes lying everywhere. He doesn't mind, for him, everything is exactly where it should be.

Behold the current buttersafe comic: https://www.buttersafe.com/2024/09/26/four-eyes/

Coincidence? We have never seen the mysterious Darth Biomech and Alex Culang in the same room together…

When the cats away the mice will play. Both Zane and Quantum are away so Hekaht has had time to do a lot of re-wiring and hacking to seemingly gain access to Zane's private folder... with naked pictures of Ahshu XD

Seriously though, I wonder what the heck he saw that had him immediately remove the glasses and look at them like that. I can't imagine he read a report that quickly so likely an image of the Ghosts. Even then it must be something frightful considering how many different species he deals with and must be familiar with.

Curious to know that too- the mystery being their purpose there. But "Ghosts" is so vague, so perhaps he found something more specific?

A short clip of "Rickrolled"

Hey....I would look startled too!

I had to Google that. Ewww!

Nice to see that stuff as advanced as Hekaht's visor still does a bluescreen (courtesy of Quantum leaving some Protection™ for the files about the secret mission behind on the Dawn) ...

Insert "Ah ah ah, you didn't say the magic word" animation in the blue-screen , with Quantum instead of Dennis Theodore Nedry

[all doors to the escape pods close and lock]

[all doors allowing the dinos vacuum in unlock and open]

... dunno, it's not quite as promising a plot for the rest of the popcorn period as it was with Isla Nubar ...

I'll be a nitpicker here and ask how does he ever find anything in all of those identical storage lockers without labels giving a clue as to what's inside?

The same way I do, by remembering where is what, of course.

-Just from my own experience that only works until there's so much stuff that it routinely becomes lost unless it has a conspicuous label on the box or locker.

Skill issue.

Making a map of the unmarked boxes in your cellar is a skill.

There's GOT to be a way to use GPS!!!

Well, yes ... there are repeaters you can install indoors that your GPS handset can then receive and get coordinates from. Also, I'm told that recent GPS receivers are more capable to get a satellite lock from inside a ferroconcrete structure. Getting the precision to within a foot or so (to be able to tell one crate from its neighbor) is still a challenge, though.

Easier to start with the walls (or a blueprint of the building) and define your own coordinate system (with the x, y, and z coordinates in units of "one cardboard box size along that axis").

The "Satellite" is in the ceiling. Short-range GPS?

Sorta-kinda "quacks like a duck"-a-way ...

Same here. I remember exactly where I put it.

I have a closet with a label that says: "Office Supplies", that has been labeled over with: "Network Equipment", that has been labeled over with: "⚠️DO NOT OPEN⚠️", that has been labeled over with: "Coffee Storage". It contains Tea bags and cups.

Most of the old networking equipment has been shoved above the drop ceiling.

... please tell me that you work in a mandatory helmet-wearing zone ...

I'm not worried, it's mostly cables, RJ45 connectors, and analog-to-digital converter boxes.

Has Hekaht found Zanes expertly formatted Excel spreadsheet collection?

I really like Hekahts Cyberpunk aesthetic, such a cool design on the glasses/visor.

Replace the sliding metal doors with a glass door and this is exactly what my workplace looks like, hexagonal boxes, loose cables everywhere, office chair...

TRIVIA
Azinarsi relationship to death is different from the rest of the civilizations of the Alliance: they do not care about it. Death would mean loss of information and experience gathered by that instance of a person's mind, though, and these two things are about the only valuables for an Uploaded mind, so Azinarsi try to avoid it when possible.
