Just stumbled on this webcomic though a link in your signature on either SB or SV (can't remember which site they blur together sometimes). This is a really nice webcomic about first contact, and I really like how most of the characters are being rational with the exception of a few (Dan, and a few other people). I especially like how none of earths military is all like totally rabid "lets go to war with an enemy that is impossible for us to beat REEEEEEEEEE" or anything, and how Garr notes that "humanity is not xenophobic" in one of the earlier panels. I like how the story is intertwining with Dan's whole shtick, and how his preconceptions are getting challenged.
That said Dan his two friends and Garr are my least favorite characters, mostly cause they are the least sane.
If the effect is electronic, it can be phased to which direction you want thrust, like with phased array radar.
Oh I can't wait for this one!
I like that you can just barely make out the outlines for the landing leg doors in the heat shield. Although, do the antigrav thingies also come out of the heat shield? They're not present in 5 or 196.
They kind of swivel on a rotating platform.
Only in a flip-out/hide-back-in manner, or do they have to swivel like rocket thrusters do, to align their effect with the vector of gravity and the craft's (desired) trajectory?
(If they worked by "making the spacecraft weightless", they wouldn't need to point outward, much less specifically out of the spacecraft's underside, would they ... ?)
Well, technically no, they don't have, but how else would I show that they exist? XDI was tempted to reply "just have a visible effect bleed out of the hull in every which direction", but then I realized that readers would probably go "ooooh, it's glowing with magic" ...Yay!
Antigrav causes wind!
There are quite surprising circumstances that allow for there being wind all of a sudden ...
