Manage to post above on the wrong page, should have been on the next. Mea Culpa.

On another note ... I get that "one [more] UFO is moving towards Earth" is the part of Dan's summary that Gharr is really interested in, but ... "There's a whole armada near Jupiter"? You spent how many weeks communicating with Gharr and planning to contact the fleet and still didn't have an idea what sort of "fleet" there is?

(Or did some of those "fellow astronomers" include some of the Jovian moons, just in case? )

Well, Dan, if you're so desperate to get Gharr (and possibly yourself) into orbit ... then putting the pedal to the metal while totally shunning seat belts might be a somewhat coherent approach ...

A blanket? Please. There's better camo than that!

Honestly, if they plan to hitch a ride, a towel would be far more appropiet.

Panel3 and 7 for the madman experience.

Seriously though, as flawed as it is I can see Dan's reasoning. If conspiracy astronomers or researchers monitoring the civilian scans can pickup and work out there's an alien fleet in orbit of Jupiter and one of them has broken off for Earth, its pretty likely the government would know.

From their perspective, all they know is that aliens have visited, the government shot down their research ship, the government sent military vehicles to the area that they passed, the government put out a false story about meteors and begun a search for vehicles matching the one they drove and now this new information kept secret.

For a guy who had zero trust in the government to begin with, there's been a lot to fuel it. Even the other's wanted a backup plan in case the government turned on them.

On a detail note: I love how cramped Gharr looks in the car and how the seat is shown much further back than Dan's to suggest it's giving room for Gharr's tail.

Good lord, does this idiot kid ever think? See, this is why aliens never visit us and they're better off for it.

He's going to need to subdue him, take control of the car, and force a reunion with the rescue party in a public place. Bet.

In this situation there are the Good Authorities (who know about the Aliens) and the Other Authorities (who might shoot first and ask questions later. Of course, there are also the Raharr now on the planet and actively searching for Gharr. ........But he shouldn't be driving like a lunatic because: Other Authorities !!

Mr. Physics would like to register as one of 'em "authorities", too.

You know I’m pretty open minded but he seems like a dangerous lunatic who’s going to somebody killed.

Dan is actually right , partially, for once! "They" are on the way, I think this bit is a bit before Bahin´s #2 broadcast at page 207 and Zane´s landing.

I wonder where Dan is going. Cant see him heading for town or base..Maybe crashsite?

Thinking "they" aka Gharr´s rescue-party will go there .

That will bring him straight to the cordoned off area with the crashed shuttle, should actually be a good thing before he gets somebody important killed.

There is a possibility Gharr will turn on his "WiFi" and the landed shuttle outside base will detect him ( Space-shuttle in the car-rear-view mirror scene and Jaws theme )

He better not get stopped for speeding or other until then, that blanket wont do much.

Hm. They passed by the first military convoy headed for the crash site, that's why the military is now searching for "a white car", one of the soldiers remembered that much of the vehicle that moved away from the it. I don't think that Dan is so beyond rational thinking that he would go back there without having a not-that-kind-of-close look first ...

They talked extensively about making radio contact to the fleet, though, so chances are that Dan knows about Gharr's capability to make contact to other Raharrs from a safe(?) distance.

( Space-shuttle in the car-rear-view mirror scene and Jaws theme )

[sadly shakes head at frantic Raharr pilot and calmly points one of the antigrav projectors at the gravity-and-friction-dependent vehicle]

that blanket wont do much

It will reduce the time Gharr will have to hold his breath to convince the coppers that he cannot possibly be an actual lifeform ...

I must confess I rarely see rational thinking from people in stressed situations including myself....But I think he will go back and you are right about it would be wise to crawl through the Underwood for a few miles and have a look-see.

Then he will get busted anyway since a perimeter alarm with FLIR , mic´s , vibration-detectors and drones + rest of the works has spotted him long before he even parked the car. In fact..They more and less just have to watch the only road going past the area.

Gharr : "I can hold my breath for 10 min!" in Guybrush voice

Gharr [in "let me disprove this 'rational under stress' nonsense once and for all!" mode]: "You wouldn't believe how long I can hold my breath!"

Dan: "Umh ... are you getting at something with that?"

Gharr: "Let's approach from below!"

Dan: "Oh ... nice idea. But I'm afraid that there is no body of water near the crash site."

Gharr [holds up hand]: "Water? Dude, them claws're for digging!!"

(Yes, yes, I know that with Raharrs, they're actually for climbing, as far as evolution is concerned. And that the metal caps they seem to have over them when wearing gloves, like Zane's armed guards do, are likely more for not destroying the gloves than for ripping faces off. But let's have a bit of fun with the natives' imagination working overtime, shall we?)

TRIVIA
Many homeworlds of the respective species are still divided into countries, but freshly established colonies on other planets are almost always monolithic and basically independent, since they sprawled from a single initial outpost, and time lag involved due to interstellar distances making remote management of the colony from a homeworld to be ineffective and frustrating at best.
