I get that we know there isn't too much of a likely threat and Dan's previous caution was certainly beyond healthy.
But this complete abandonment of caution isn't necessarily healthy as well. The old plan they discussed with Gharr to have a friend ready to drop information was probably a better approach but if its one of these three staying behind and going into hiding to watch for a signal of clear or stress, its even better.
But the greatest plan of all involves Gharr turning on his flaming communicator! ;P
It's a sophisticated relationship with an alien from another star-system when you can argue with them about what's best for all parties concerned, and each appreciate the other's viewpoint and concerns.
Those clenched fist looks ready to "reward" Dan atleast. Gotta hunch Val is a mean fighter.....
It goes without saying the Military in any nation would think of Aliens as a threat until proven otherwise and any civilian messing in their business as a liability outside their control until questioned "thoroughly" and sidetracked far far away from the sphere of influence. So lets hope for the best .
Besides that I can already see them driving up to the base-gate , Gharr on the front passenger seat , casually rolling the window down and to the port-guard stating "Take me to you leader".....
No, no, no. The soldiers who get guard duty at the gate will gladly escalate actual problems (you) up the chain of command, no aneurysma needed. Try asking for the equivalent of a 6059b instead.
I suppose Gharr's shuttle made an unauthorized border crossing when it entered Protagistani airspace, but does even international law apply when the "persons of interest" aren't even from the same neighborhood of the galaxy?
No body of Terran law has any provisions to apply the term "person" to anyone who isn't human to boot; jurisprudence abhors making statements about stuff that's not going to appear in court and require a decision, like, here and now. They'd have to come up with a lot of quick fixes if aliens - or any other kind of so-far-mythical beings, for that matter - ever do pop up on Earth, and that's no little contribution to the uncertainty what our reaction to them would actually be.
Not really. If a "juristic person" openly violates the law, they get called "a cartel", "organized crime". "terrorist group" or somesuch, and the ultima ratio of stopping them is to sentence their members, recurring to those being humans and thus having legal culpability. (As well as a physical body you can jail.)
On the flip side (i.e., them operating legally), let me point to the myriad of legal forms (LLC, stock corporation, yadda yadda), which first and foremost are models of how the entity's duties and responsibilities break down onto founders, CEOs, boards, shareholders etc., ultimately pointing fingers at individual humans as well.
I'd imagine, Gharr reunites with Zane & Co at the base, then Bahin wheels in a cart stacked with papers saying: "Right, so about the crashed ship, we need you to fill out some paperwork..."

Ooh, he got her with the double crossed arms!
Pfft, the government rewarding others by keeping an alien safe from them? Yeah, good wishful thinking their buddy.

I think the best possible reward would be a hefty fine for harboring invasive fauna.

It would be good fun!

"Nothing to Declare??? No drugs, booze....Smokes.......Illegal Aliens??"
That wouldn't fly at the US-Mexican border!

You're forgetting about the inhuman group minds, aka corporations.

Lawyers? What planet are they from anyway?
Earth, two dimensions over, they call it "Hell".
I'd imagine, Gharr reunites with Zane & Co at the base, then Bahin wheels in a cart stacked with papers saying: "Right, so about the crashed ship, we need you to fill out some paperwork..."
As to the cart full of paper, how about replying : How about we make the problem just go away, say , just vaporize your country ?
Even worse, "You must meet with OUR Lawyers before we'll do anything else!"
... I'm getting a "Vogons on evil steroids" vibe here ...
